In addition to the information that was available from the UK
National Archives UKNA) and Library and Archives Canada (LAC), I also
secured the files for Grandfather Laughton from Veterans Affairs Canada
(VAC). This information had been used previously (file retrieved in
2010) for the Military Service section of this web site but the full
document had not been posted.
As a result of discussions on the nature of material contained in
these records, I am now publishing the complete document, including the
forms required to execute the "Access to Information and Privacy
Request". This may be of interest to other researchers.
Unlike the VAC report for Grandfather Kennedy, the report for
Grandfather Laughton contains a number of documents related to his
service after accepting a commission in the Imperial Services of the
British Expeditionary Force. It may be important for other researchers
to know that VAC had secured these records from the Public Records
Office (PRO) in the United Kingdom at some earlier date. Those records
were not on file in Canada at LAC. For the record, PRO was the previous
name of the UKNA, located in Kew, England.
